Flu, on the other hand, almost always comes with high fever, which tends to last at least three to four days. Headaches and general aches are common. Severe weakness and fatigue are characteristic of flu, as well as are chest discomfort and coughing, which may become severe. Flu often begins with a headache or dry cough or body chills, and these symptoms typically worsen quickly. Although fever generally subsides within days, exhaustion and weakness may persist for weeks.
Each winter, between 20 to 50 percent of the U.S. population is affected by the flu. And no proven cure for either colds or flu is in existence. At this time, prevention should be the goal.
